Arctic Instruments specializes in microwave readout solutions for quantum tech developers. Our flagship product is a near-quantum-limited superconducting microwave amplifier designed for high-fidelity qubit readout. The company was founded in late 2024, as a spin-off of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.
As a Design Trainee, you work on and improve various aspects of our hardware product in Espoo, Finland. You will assist in the design and modeling of superconducting microwave circuits. You employ analytical and/or numerical tools to improve the performance and speed up the engineering design cycle of our traveling wave parametric amplifier.
The ideal candidate:
- You have a university background in physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a related field.
- You are theoretically skilled (but don’t be discouraged from applying if you are an experimentalist).
- Depending on your interests, the work can be tailored towards one or more of the following directions:
- Drawing from your programming experience, you develop electronic design automation software that addresses, e.g., circuit layout on a microchip.
- You are assigned engineering tasks such as electromagnetic simulations with commercial field solvers, and interpretation of results.
- You study non-linear parametric effects that are at the heart of amplifier operation.
- You have good interaction and collaboration skills and fluent English.
- Basic understanding of superconducting quantum devices is considered an asset, but is not required.
We appreciate willingness to learn, a professional attitude towards teamwork, and the ability to work independently.
We offer:
- The dynamic work environment of a deep-tech start-up company.
- You will be part of developing groundbreaking technology that propels quantum computing toward real world impact.
- As a valued member of our team, you will learn from your mentor and other professionals with deep expertise in superconducting quantum technology.
How to apply:
Please apply by sending an email to recruitment@arcticinst.io with your contact details, CV, transcript of study records, and a cover letter by February 3rd, 2026 at the latest. We review applications on a rolling basis, and the interviews can be started already during the application period.
The employment type is a paid, full-time, fixed-term traineeship. The minimum duration is three months. The expected starting date is between April and June 2026, but can be negotiated case by case.
Senior Design Engineer
As a Senior Design Engineer, you work close to the heart of our product. That is, you design, model and invent superconducting circuits at or close-to the chip-level.
Open Application
Our success depends on our people. If you have strong reasons to believe that we need you, contact us via recruitment@arcticinst.io and convince us.
